About
Established in 2006 by a group of Portuguese music devotees, Bolachas Gratis has promoted hundreds of independent bands through the years on its various incarnations. 2009 saw Bolachas’ going through some major changes, getting its own domain and broadening its horizons by starting to feature album and concert reviews, including reports on some of the most relevant festivals of the Iberian Peninsula, like Spain’s Primavera Sound or the Portuguese upstart Milhões de Festa.
In 2010, its own cassette/digital label Cakes and Tapes was born, helping unsung and unsigned artists by doing something more than just writing a note about their songs. Notable alumni include American artists Yellow Ostrich, Yuni in Taxco or Erica Buettner.
Entering its sixth year of operation, 2012 marks the beginning of a brand new era for Bolachas, with a new, Tumblr-based website, new features and a fresh, ever expanding team of writers from all over Europe, passionate about discovering and helping people discover new music. This is Bolachas. I hope you’ve learned about how to pronounce that word by now.
