‘klamath’ (decor records) is mark eitzel’s first proper solo album of new original material since 2001’s ‘invisible man’ on matador. written and recorded in a log cabin in the middle of the woods – by the klamath river, california. eitzel producing with franz nicolay from the hold steady and marc capelle from american music club and dave douglas (who drums with kelley stoltz) guesting on the album. the pastoral – laid back, late night sparse feel to the album harkens back to eitzel’s folk influences of nick drake and john martyn and earlier work with american music club. just prior to american music club’s breakup in 1995, eitzel began his solo career in earnest and since then he has released six albums including ‘60 watt siliver
lining’, ‘west’ with rem’s peter buck, ‘caught in a trap…’ with members of sonic youth and yo la tengo and two albums of cover versions. in 2003, american music club got back together for one of the most anticipated and amazing reunions in ages. their 2004 album, ‘love songs for patriots’, received widespread critical acclaim as well as the follow up ‘the golden age’. in between these albums he released a collection of soundtrack material called ‘candy ass’.

Thanks to all the people who helped me do this: Mitzi Johnson gave me a quiet place to record; Scott Evans loaned me his bass, All the various people who let me crash at their houses where I wrote this record, Todd Cote for booking a tour that paid for it, Grace Zabriskie for being an excellent filter, Monte Vallier who mixed all this mess in a big hurry. Thanks to the Crockett family for letting me stay in their cabin in Happy Camp for a couple of weeks…
I know I’ll never reproduce most of it on a stage – but believe me it is enough work / expense touring with a pianist. I don’t think that most people who come see me will be too disappointed that I don’t perform the songs in the same style as the record – because all they want to hear are Johnny Mathis’ Feet and Firefly anyway (which is fair enough and I am proud to play them).
Next I am going to record an album of newer songs to sell as merch. These will be particularily lofi recordings. I am giving myself an hour each to get them together… Should be fun. After that I will record the songs that me and my pianist play together…
Merch. I live for Merch.

Please remove this CD. This artist only printed 500 copies of this CD and you are hurting his ability to even break even on this recording. If you want to buy a copy you can at markeitzel.info
I’ve been e-mailing Eitzel for weeks now trying to buy a copy of this from him with no response….but he has time to take down this link? Lame.
Mark’s on tour with limited email access, but you can by the CD here: http://markeitzel.info
RE: lame
How about a little empathy Patrick? Mark is not some big successful rock star like Metallica. He is a working musician who must tour constantly to just pay his bills. Mark didn’t complain, I did.
Lame? An artist who needs to sell CDs in order to cover the cost of making them? How about some patience? If you’re fan enough to be trying to order this directly from Eitzel, you ought to be willing to cut the guy some slack.
