A small offering from England’s post-punk greats, Joy Division. Love Will Tear Us Apart is inscribed on Ian Curtis’ grave stone, most definitely alluding to the marriage that was collapsing around him, and Curtis’ mental deterioration into a bit of a lunatic before his untimely end. Both songs were recorded in 1979, released in 1980, after Curtis’ suicide. This ep has two great tracks, LWTUA & Transmission; staples to any music collection, covered by classic bands, like Low and Hot Chip. It’s rare that such a personal and dark set of songs have been adopted by so many and transformed into anthems, spurring musical inspiration in so many divers music lovers, when the originator of the message was such a troubled soul. Irony. Humanity. Purity. Simplicity. Accessibility…

This is awesome!
One of the best EP ever recorded!
One of those bands EVERYONE cites with seemingly no cultural backlash.
I wonder what the internet would have done to this band? Would we have had it leaked hear, written about on Gorilla vs Bear, reviewed on the Fork and then forgotten about the 6 months later?
Either way, brilliant.
Now someone assemble an essential covers set /w link.
I don’t know if this band would have been forgotten… I think they get right to your soul and become unforgettable in a way. They sure wear their music on their sleeve. I think you have a great idea – a Joy Division Cover’s album. I have about a dozen myself. The Hot Chip version of Transmission is a recent favorite.
she´s lost control. again.
