Bill Fay, “Be at Peace With Yourself”

Didn’t see that a new Bill Fay album was due next 20th on Dead Oceans until a few minutes ago. If it’s half as good as 1971’s Time of the Last Persecution, an album I learned to love some years ago due to the Current 93 cover of the title track, we might have a serious contender for album of the year. The first song off it, “Be at Peace With Yourself”, really exceeds my own expectations. Reading the tracklist for the new album, Life is People, and realizing there’s a version of Wilco’s “Jesus, Etc.” in it makes me want to pre-order it right now.

April 1944 by Horrible Present

darling let’s stick to the letters exchange

let’s keep all the laughs we didn’t waste

we are still on time

save a bottle of your best wine

we will be fine

down here in the army no one is up to fight

“the war in not charming”

Yet another video taken from one of the best Portuguese albums of 2012: Quack, by Nice Weather for Ducks. You can still download the record for free through Optimus Discos. Who knows, it could be your summer indie rock record.

“Rowing the campground up by the lake where we swam.
We were hunting for snakes,
but we couldn’t find them.

But it’s just me in my room,
with my eyes shut.

When I was seventeen, my mother said to me
"Don’t stop imagining. The day that you do is the day that you die.”
Now I pull a wanton carriage,
instead of the horses, grazing along.
I was having fun.
We were all having fun.“

Milhões de Festa 2012: day 2

A few more little sleep and we made it to the second day. This time I’ve slept a little better, and also more, cool. Anyway, do you even care about this piece of information? I need to find better ways to make an intro. Nevermind. I woke up soon still, and made it in time for the first show, for a name that I had missed back in Thursday. I think.
