“Thistle”, dat trippy song off Hundred Waters’ debut full-length album (currently on the race for Album of the Year here) just got the “remix EP treatment” on Skrillex’s (lol) imprint OWSLA. I’m not usually a fan of remixes, but I gotta say the AraabMuzik one slays. Try ‘em all below.

This is the soundtrack of the sunny days you’re missing out by staying at home playing partypoker for hours (kidding, it’s been raining for two days now even here in supposedly-sunny-Portugal and it feels good to stay at home for a while). Blonde Summer’s second EP Slow Daze couldn’t be more appropriate for this season, as the band name lets loose.
Just by seeing the album cover and the band-album name combo I bet you imagine what this sounds like: surf-rock influenced pop tunes, drenched in sunlight and washed out vocals to chill by the poolside to. Opening tracks “Slow Days Fast Company” and “Robots on Command” are the highlights here – great riff on the chorus of this latter, though it seems like we’ve seen this before.
What we didn’t see happening plenty of times though is a feel good hit of the summer that is able to live beyondthat specific summer is hard to find. I’m having a hard time believing this could be the case, but hey, there’s still one month left. Could we just get a little bit of warmth for what’s left of this lackluster “summer”?

My personal favorite festival Paredes de Coura is just ahead and we’re here to welcome it. Almost a landmark in Portugal, Paredes de Coura is turning twenty this year. And what a big boy it has become. From the likes of Sonic Youth, Arcade Fire, Dinosaur Jr., Queens of the Stone Age, Yo La Tengo, Mogwai, PJ Harvey, Pixies, Death from Above 1979, Morrissey, Bauhaus, The Cramps (and we could keep going), the shores of river Tabuão (that sets the perfect idyllic scenery) have seen it all. More than you probably will in your whole life.
That’s it, the last day of festival. I woke up early (as usual, you know the drill) and immediately found some hardcore friends who just came from an after-party in Barcelinhos and who were looking to move directly to the swimming-pool. Hold on, fellas, it’s still closed. Go sleep. But enough of revealing some dirty secrets, I too went quickly lunching to be at time for enjoying a long day of swimming. And great music.
