#250: Lydia Loveless, “Daughter”

Bolachas Now Playing, a new music Spotify playlist, updated every Wednesday.

Five and a half years later, we reach the round number of 250 weeks providing you with fresh new music. That’s a lot of hours of music and a whole lot of hours of work put into this. Congratulate us. This week we bring you “Daughter”, the new record by singer-songwriter Lydia Loveless. It’s probably the most brilliant effort yet from someone we can start shamelessly call the heir to Lucinda Williams’ throne.

#243: Mike Polizze, “Long Lost Solace Find”

Bolachas Now Playing, a new music Spotify playlist, updated every Wednesday.

Purling Hiss frontman Mike Polizze has gone solo, and the result is our album of the week, “Long Lost Solace Find”. With a little help from buddy Kurt Vile and engineer Jeff Zeigler (KV, the War on Drugs, etc), he’s crafted one of the nicest feel-good folk-pop records of the season. Go get it while it’s hot.

#231: Blake Mills, “Mutable Set”

Blake Mills has been over the place over the past few years, including this very setlist (that’s also him on Perfume Genius’ new track). You can find him producing, playing or singing on albums such as Laura Marling’s “Semper Femina”, Dawes’ “We’re All Gonna Die”, Conor Oberst’s “Salutations”, Weyes Blood’s “Titanic Rising”… you know the drill. They’ve all been featured here. After adding some guitar tracks on Cass McCombs’ “Mangy Love” a few years back, he has now invited back the fellow Californian for some collaborative songwriting on his exquisite, brilliant new album, “Mutable Set”.
