As usual, the first playlist of the year features our favourite album released in the last weeks of 2021. This time we have the veteran singer-songwriter Michael Hurley with his new record “The Time of the Foxgloves”.
Ada Lea’s debut LP, ‘what we say in private’, was the soundtrack of a big chunk of my summer of 2019. Speak/sung vocals and big melodies reminiscent of recent albums by the likes of Big Thief or Katie von Schleicher. The Canadian singer-songwriter’s new album was just released and it follows up the debut perfectly.
Signing singer-songwriter Arlo McKinley for his Oh Boy Records was probably one of the last gifts John Prine gave us. With a full powered Memphis-based band backing him, “Die Midwestern” is a goldmine of western folk-rock tunes.
