#40: Corb Lund, “Things that Can’t Be Undone”

After some low-key weeks there were plenty of great new albums being released in the last couple of weeks. Joanna Newsom could be the highlight here, but she openly dislikes Spotify, so the Canadian cowboy Corb Lund takes the crown this week. Other highlights include Blitzen Trapper, Amy Speace and Beach House’s new albums (2 songs each). Listen:

#39: John Grant, “Grey Tickles, Black Pressure”

This week, on our 15-song playlist, we’ll focus on the new John Grant record, which is probably his best album to date. There are two songs off the new Saintseneca album, a band that is an old favorite of Bolachas. We hope this is their real breakthrough. Ciara, Kelela and Tinashe’s new singles are three brand new pop nuggets we can’t get enough of and, of course, you’ll find them here; look out for new songs by Zombi, Protomartyr, James Vincent McMorrow, Weyes Blood, and Daniel Martin Moore. And although we know it’s Friday and there’s no time for #TBTs or whatever people celebrate on Thursdays in 2015, check out a new version of Minta’s “Future Me” by They’re Heading West featuring Peixe and absolute classic “Such a Night”, which was just reissued along with 61 other Dr. John songs. Such a week.

#38: Donnie Fritts, “Oh My Goodness”

Our playlist #38 has a lot of songs in it. The new Donnie Fritts record, Oh My Goodness just came out, and there’s two songs off it on our playlist. But it was pretty difficult for us to find a consensus on which album to put on the spotlight: there’s also two songs off new records by U.S. Girls, Mercury Rev, and Robert Forster to listen to, along with new or recent songs by Tindersticks, Kurt Vile, They’re Heading West (a beautiful Samuel Úria cover, featuring the man himself), Daniel Knox, Geir Sundstøl, and Glen Hansard. Listen to the playlist below and don’t forget to follow the main playlist here and check all the songs we’ve been championing since the first week of the year here.
