This is the soundtrack of the sunny days you’re missing out by staying at home playing partypoker for hours (kidding, it’s been raining for two days now even here in supposedly-sunny-Portugal and it feels good to stay at home for a while). Blonde Summer’s second EP Slow Daze couldn’t be more appropriate for this season, as the band name lets loose.

Just by seeing the album cover and the band-album name combo I bet you imagine what this sounds like: surf-rock influenced pop tunes, drenched in sunlight and washed out vocals to chill by the poolside to. Opening tracks “Slow Days Fast Company” and “Robots on Command” are the highlights here – great riff on the chorus of this latter, though it seems like we’ve seen this before.

What we didn’t see happening plenty of times though is a feel good hit of the summer that is able to live beyondthat specific summer is hard to find. I’m having a hard time believing this could be the case, but hey, there’s still one month left. Could we just get a little bit of warmth for what’s left of this lackluster “summer”?

Dead Quote Olympics

Hi. As you may or may not know, this blog, even though it’s written in English, is run by Portuguese music nerds who, due to being unemployed, have nothing better to do than to tell you what you should or should not listen to. (Oh, wait: that’s probably only me.) However, over the past few days we have become, like many others, very interested in the London 2012 Summer Olympics, mostly to trash our own athletes for spending precious taxpayer money and not getting any medals, even though we only care about football and they have few, if any, support from the government. But, today, we’ve finally won our first, and probably only, medal: a silver one, in canoeing. FUCK YEAH! We’re so happy right now we’re going to point you to Wiaiwya, a blog which has been putting up free song downloads everytime a GB ahtlete wins a medal. While most of them are pretty interesting, none will be as much as Saint Etienne’s (the third greatest band of all time, only surpassed by our very own Mão Morta and Japan’s psych-noise freaks Les Rallizes Dénudés) “Steeplechase”, a nice pop tune, as it is usual from them. You can grab it over here, and if you feel like spending money, you can do that, too – buy the whole compilation. Or send some to me, because I’m running out of small change to buy cans of tuna – which is essentialy the cheapest thing I can afford to eat right now. GOD GET ME OUT OF THIS HELLHOLE

Yet another video taken from one of the best Portuguese albums of 2012: Quack, by Nice Weather for Ducks. You can still download the record for free through Optimus Discos. Who knows, it could be your summer indie rock record.
