MILHÕES STAGE
GAMA BOMB are the major source of appeal for the metalhead kids who wandered around the festival site last year. Iron Maiden called and they set the phone on fire.
After Iron Maiden, it’s Black Sabbath’s turn to dial someone. They obviously choose GRAVEYARD, a Swedish act that draws most of its influence from the greatest hard rock bands of the 70s with a hint of blues. Avenged Sevenfold should call them, the Swedes may be able to help them stop being shitty.
BORN A LION will have the honor to open the big stage. Though I haven’t seen this bluesy Portuguese-Brazilian act since early 2007, they were pretty solid back then and I can bet they still are.
VICE STAGE
ZUN ZUN EGUI is math-rock gone on vacations. Partiest band of the day? Can’t miss these guys.
LOBSTER is Portugal’s answer to Hella. They’re known for their short but intense live shows, and while they haven’t played shows in a while, the duo should be in top shape for this.
IF LUCY FELL are another Portuguese band that will make their comeback in Barcelos. Drawing influences from the American (post-)hardcore scene, they were widely regarded as one of the best Portuguese bands of the 00s, both in studio and live. Lead singer Makoto Yagyu will be leading the chaos on the Vice stage with his crazy stage antics. I wouldn’t be surprised if their show ends up being considered the best of the night.
POOL STAGE
Straight from Ankara, Turkey comes HAYVANLAR ALEMI (something like “Animal Kingdom” in English). Found by the marvelous Sublime Frequencies, Hayvanlar Alemi is a cocktail of Middle Eastern vibes and pure surf’n’roll. And while I don’t think it’s a good idea to surf in a pool, I could still listen to this for hours and hours.
Local cut-the-bullshit rockers THE GLOCKENWISE had just played dusty, sold out Super Bock Super Rock festival last weekend and one year after storming the festival’s main stage, they’re back to MdF to play near the pool where they shot the video for their first single, “Bardamu Girls”, which you can watch below. One of the most promising young bands from Portugal.
