Bolachas.org @ Milhões de Festa Festival 2011

Portugal is known (is it?) by its summer festivals that are actually sunny. For the first time, Bolachas will be covering one of them. If you do visit Bolachas, you should have seen the Milhões de Festa (that’s Millions of Party) banner below the header by now. MdF is a relatively new summer festival that takes place at the end of July (next week: 22/23/24) at the town of Barcelos, northern Portugal. Great food, cheap ticket & beer, plenty of room for everyone, camping with actually decent conditions, a pool with a goddamn clown in it, dozens of bands. We’ll be writing a couple of posts about the bands which will play on each day of the festival during the next week, starting today. Oh, and while we don’t really care about Twitter, we do have an account that was used during Primavera Sound 2010 (I wish the full report was still online but this year’s databank crash dumped almost two full years of blogging). Follow @bolachasorg to get live updates during the fest (at least until my Android’s battery runs out) and expect a full review after the fest.

Richmond Fontaine, “Lost in the Trees”

Two years after the magnificent “We Used to Think the Freeway Sounded Like a River”, alt-country’s finest act Richmond Fontaine are back with the first single of their new album, “The High Country”, available next August 29th on Trash Aesthetics/Decor Records. “Lost in the Trees” could be the soundtrack of a car chase; it might be one of the rockiest songs of their entire discography. Solid. You can stream it below on the Soundcloud widget.

Big Harp, “Everybody Pays”

First song from the debut album of the new Saddle Creek signing, Los Angeles’ husband-wife folky duo Big Harp. Chris Senseney’s great baritone voice seems to be the missing link between The National’s Matt Berninger and Bill Callahan.. do you really need more reasons to take a listen? Just enter your email on the widget below and you’re good to go.
Debut album “White Hat” will be in stores next September 13th.
