Godspeed You! Black Emperor have just released their new album, ‘ALLELUJAH! DON’T BEND! ASCEND!, the first since they got back together after almost a decade of absence, which you can listen in its entirety below. Like if that fact wasn’t celebratory enough, they’re playing yet another new song live – a 45min song appropriately named “Behemoth”. Their taper-friendly policy means everyone gets to listen to it – the full concert is available here – even if you can’t attend one of the shows on their European tour, starting next week in Porto. Mac DeMarco’s second reelase of 2012, 2,  is out today on Captured Tracks. On my fav “Freaking Out the Neighborhood” he sounds like a jangly Cass McCombs on a rush, which means this will stay on repeat mode through the afternoon. Buy the new album here.

Sonny & the Sunsets > Casa das Artes, Coimbra > 25/09/12

We told you not to miss it and I hope you blindly followed our orders.

When was the last time you went to a gig and had a reception with free fruit salad on a stick and plethora of drinks to choose from? Lugar Comum, the promoters from the Coimbra show, really did their best to make sure you were in the right mood to properly enjoy some Sonny & the Sunsets, despite the rainy and windy weather outside. In the beginning of the concert, the band sounded a bit sloppy though, indicating that perhaps it wasn’t a very good idea for us to sit down on the ground on a non-seated venue. Bands don’t soundcheck thinking about people sitting on the ground, you know. In spite of that, there’s nothing not to love about songs like “Reflections on Youth” or “Love Among Social Animals”.

The Cairo Gang – Now You Are One of Us

yvynyl brings us today a brand new track from Emmett Kelly (AKA The Cairo Gang). I’ve been following his work since I saw him playing with Bonnie “Prince” Billy a couple of years ago here in town, and judging by this new song we might have a gem of an album waiting for us next October 23rd.

Emmett Kelly is a man about town. He’s played on every recent Bonnie “Prince” Billy record, engineered, produced, and performed as the entire backing band on the new Angel Olsen album, and been “heavily involved” in dozens of other projects in the weird folk scene. He’s a man who loves music with every fiber of his being, and that comes through on tracks like this. Oh my god that guitar flourish cuts me deep.

Pure Bathing Culture’s “Ivory Coast” was already one of my fav songs of 2012. Now Sean Pecknold did a pretty pretty/weird video to go along with it, which you can watch above and I just learned, while googling the band name, that the duo is actually composed by Vetiver members Daniel Hindman and Sarah Versprille. The music itself sounds like a hybrid between Vetiver’s dreamy last record and Beach House’s best moments, so now everything makes even more sense in my head. Thanks I Guess I’m Floating for the tip. Buy their debut 12" EP here.
