After two very promising EPs back in 2019, Dry Cleaning have finally launched their first long play, ‘New Long Leg’. Here, Florence Shaw’s sharp, deadpan spoken word vocals contrast with the chaotic instrumentation of the English post-punkish art-rockers in one of the most intriguing (and well accomplished) rock and roll albums of 2021.

Bolachas’ Top 40 Albums of 2012
Check this out, a best of 2012 list that actually wasn’t posted until the year ended! A typical characteristic of a list like this – composed of the individual lists of some people whose music tastes I enjoy enough to ask them to contribute to the blog – is a certain conservatism (although there are some newcomers ranking pretty high, like Hundred Waters, Purity Ring, alt-J or Point Reyes) with some albums that manage to sneak into the top 10 despite not being the artists’ top moments (GY!BE, Spiritualized, Andrew Bird). Was 2012 that boring or are we the boring ones who only listen to boring music? Have your say in the comments section and post your own lists. Enough with the small talk…
Godspeed You! Black Emperor have just released their new album, ‘ALLELUJAH! DON’T BEND! ASCEND!, the first since they got back together after almost a decade of absence, which you can listen in its entirety below. Like if that fact wasn’t celebratory enough, they’re playing yet another new song live – a 45min song appropriately named “Behemoth”. Their taper-friendly policy means everyone gets to listen to it – the full concert is available here – even if you can’t attend one of the shows on their European tour, starting next week in Porto. Full set of dates here.
