“Boots No. 2: The Lost Songs” is a three volume collection of lost unreleased tracks straight from the Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings vault. The third and final part was just released last Friday and it’s in our spotlight for week 45.

Wow, every now and then we also feature non-“songwriter” music as our album of the week! It’s only been half a week of listening to it on repeat, but Moon Duo’s seventh LP is probably their most interesting offering so far. “Stars Are the Light” finds the American psych duo at their grooviest and we simply can’t get enough.
And there’s more: brand new tracks by The Deer, The New Pornographers, Chastity Belt, Vivian Girls, Cate Le Bon and Bradford Cox, The Comet is Coming, Mão Morta, Weeping Icon, Xylouris White, Telefon Tel Aviv, Sturgill Simpson, Loving, Red River Dialect, Darrin Bradbury and Margo Price, Colter Wall, Molly Sarlé, Dori Freeman, Mount Eerie and Julie Doiron, Donivan Berube, Will Johnson, The Milk Carton Kids, the Mountain Goats, and Jim James with The Louisville Orchestra.

We’re back and we’re bringing you a ton of music. Unusually, August was kinda eventful, with plenty of great single and album releases. So we had to exaggerate a bit and make a 33 song playlist (and we had to leave quite a few tracks out to make it reasonable). Our focus this week is The Hold Steady’s new album “Thrashing Thru the Passion”, probably their best since 2008’s “Stay Positive”. There’s no way we’re tagging every single artist this time around, so just scroll down for the track list.

Ok, we said we were going to hibernate for a few weeks. But then we decided to give it another go – there are still albums and songs to be released in the first few days of December, right? There are twenty more songs to be heard, so why wait until next year? This week we focus on the posthumously released final album by Willard Grant Conspiracy, almost two years after the passing of frontman Robert Fisher, plus new and recent tracks by Lambchop, Jennah Barry, Pistol Annies, Sarah Shook & The Disarmers, Jessica Pratt, Fog Lake, Harlem, Susto, The Decemberists, Cass McCombs, Lubomyr Melnyk, Daniel Knox, Steve Gunn, Donivan Berube, Pedro the Lion, The Cactus Blossoms, Aidan Moffat & RM Hubbert, and Angelo De Augustine.
