This week on Bolachas Now Playing we explore Nap Eyes’ Thought Rock Fish Scale and Nils Frahm’s new project Nonkeen. There are also new songs by some of our old favorites such as Loretta Lynn, M. Ward, Parquet Courts, Kevin Morby, Cian Nugent, Luther Dickinson, Andrew Bird, Whitney, Gun Outfit, Holy Ghost!, and AlunaGeorge.
This week’s highlight on Bolachas Now Playing is the new, superb Shearwater record, Jet Plane and Oxbow, perhaps their best album to date. So good we’ve put three songs off it on our playlist this week. But there’s more! We’re visiting other latitudes this week, through new tracks by Robbie Fulks, Suuns, Eric Bachmann, Luís Severo, Promise and the Monster, Gangly, Dawn Richard, Babyfather, Fat White Family, Massive Attack, and Made of Oak.
Those who follow our Facebook page knew about this last Friday, but we’ve forgotten to post this on the website… Well, better late than never, as cliché as that sounds. Half Japanese’s new record, Perfect, was the highlight last week!
Bolachas Now Playing is back with plenty of new music after the holiday season. David Bowie would still be featured even if he was alive – his latest record, Blackstar, is undoubtedly the first highlight of 2016. Some old favorites will be releasing new records this winter/spring (Explosions in the Sky, Tortoise, Woods, Yeasayer, Basia Bulat, Eleanor Friedberger), some are just starting (Cam, Anderson Paak, Margo Price) but there’s so much more: new tracks by Villagers, Jacob Faurholt, Matthew E. White & Natalie Prass, Santigold, and Brandy Clark. Here’s the first Bolachas Now Playing of the year, the 49th since we first started.
