The latest Grant-Lee Phillips album and the Jason Molina RSD 7″ (with two previously unreleased Townes Van Zandt covers) are our records of the week.
This week’s highlight on Bolachas Now Playing is the new, superb Shearwater record, Jet Plane and Oxbow, perhaps their best album to date. So good we’ve put three songs off it on our playlist this week. But there’s more! Our our last Bolachas Now Playing of the year – we’ll move on and choose our best songs and records of 2015 on the forthcoming weeks, keep in touch! – we focus on the new Ty Segall record which came out last week. The upcoming Mount Moriah record is also on the spotlight, and we also have new songs by Sam Outlaw, M. Ward, Ethan Johns, Sarah Neufeld, Pop. 1280, Animal Collective, !!!, Antony’s ANOHNI, Nicolas Godin, Dawn Richard, and Fatima Yamaha.
We got a bit deeper than the usual on our second installment of our weekly Spotify playlists. Panda Bear and Justin Townes Earle make it to the list again with two new songs, but it’s Dawn Richard who steals the show with two songs off her new record, Blackheart. Brand new songs from singer-songwriters whose new albums were just announced (Waxahatchee and Matthew E. White) also make the list; and please don’t miss on the magnificent treatment country singer Lee Ann Womack gave to ol’ Uncle Neil’s classic Out On The Weekend.
