Will Samson is not your average singer-songwriter. His blend of fragmented, ambient electronica and minimalist folk sure isn’t that original in the middle of 2012 (not that I’m looking for “originality” in songs) but we’re in for a treat judging from the only song available from his forthcoming album, Balance, coming out next October 5th on German imprint Karaoke Kalk (Dakota Suite, Hauschka).

Meridians is Julie Napolin (Citay) and Trevor Healy (Cakes of Light). Their open-form ballads are alternately driving and hypnotic, exploring the overtones, dissonances, and consonances created by voice, electronics, and guitars. Julie currently plays solo under the Meridians moniker, performing live with tape drones and guitarists such as David First (Notekillers) and Tom Carter (Charalambides).

The unreleased tracks in the Meridians self-titled LP set were co-written and recorded in 2008-2009 by Julie and Trevor. It was recorded with Tim Green (The Fucking Champs/Nation of Ulysses) in San Francisco. There are echoes of British folk, minimalism and the more cinematic strains of krautrock as the two combine intricate electric and 12-string guitar melodies over pulsing loops of flute, violin, found objects and oscillators.

Metacomet, “You Run Too”

Four new spacey, dreamy jams by the Bay Area trio Metacomet, mastered by master James Plotkin (OLD/Khanate). Free download available, but the crushing closing track "Innerfaces" alone justifies the couple of dollars you could donate.

GOLDEN GOLDEN GOLDEN GOLDEN

This is how the new Point Reyes album, aptly titled Golden begins. If you’ve been following them since we first posted their debut EP, Wetnurse/Point Reyes early last year, you’ll notice quite a lot of stuff has changed in their music. Opening track “Golden” relies quite a bit on new member Nini Julia Bang’s impressive backup vocals – and dude, you’ll be amazed when the Danish singer takes the spotlight later in the record. The good news? You can stream the whole thing now on Big School Records’ bandcamp and download the title track through our soundcloud. Over and out. STAY GOLDEN.

Olive Trips SOS

Olive Troops SOS is a trio consisting of Bruno Silva (a.k.a. the guy who writes the best reviews at Bodyspace.net, ex-aequo with Rafael Santos), Carlos Nascimento and Vítor Lopes (who I haven’t the pleasure of knowing personally, but I’m sure they’re equally awesome people). Their new record, Atol, is the kind of droney electronica you’d expect from a kösmiche band in the 21st century (instead of a kösmiche band in the 20th century who dreams about the 21st) and you can buy it for whatever price you think is reasonable at their Bandcamp, below. They’re also selling K7s (and you should now how much we love those things), of which they have a WHOLE AMAZING AMOUNT OF… thirty copies. Damn, if you like K7s as much as we do, hurry up.
