Will Samson is not your average singer-songwriter. His blend of fragmented, ambient electronica and minimalist folk sure isn’t that original in the middle of 2012 (not that I’m looking for “originality” in songs) but we’re in for a treat judging from the only song available from his forthcoming album, Balance, coming out next October 5th on German imprint Karaoke Kalk (Dakota Suite, Hauschka).

Cakes and Tapes veterans The Shilohs are bound to release a brand new 7" on Matt Mondanile’s (Ducktails, Real Estate) label New Images. Pitchfork has just premiered the title track and this guitar sound fits so good on my Destroyer’s Rubies’-filled afternoon. (No wonder, since this has been recorded at the same studios in Vancouver.)

Another solid release from the amazing pop songs crafter that is Nicola Donà, or Horrible Present. It’s not the first time we’re posting about him and certainly this won’t be the last. These four brand new songs were progressively released in the weeks leading to this release and are now available for free download as a package (grab them on Bandcamp). “April 1944” is my song of the month. I’m glad I live in the same world as Horrible Present.

My dear friends from Blessed Feathers, who released an album on Cakes and Tapes around this time last year will put out a new record, Peaceful Beasts In An Ocean Of Weeds next October 9. But first, they teamed up with Peter Wolf Crier to do a pretty good cover of Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Porcelain”.
The new album will be released as hand-numbered, limited-edition digital vinyl discs. All pre-orders of the album placed before street date will receive a free copy of the new Summer/Fall 2012 issue of frontman Donivan Berube’s literary zine, Sleeping in a Torn Quilt / Dreaming of Gold. “Thistle”, dat trippy song off Hundred Waters’ debut full-length album (currently on the race for Album of the Year here) just got the “remix EP treatment” on Skrillex’s (lol) imprint OWSLA. I’m not usually a fan of remixes, but I gotta say the AraabMuzik one slays. Try ‘em all below.
