We have been waiting for this one for months. After some delays, Protomartyr’s fifth album is finally out now. Our favorite contemporary post-punk band is back and it brings a bunch of guitar-heavy tracks along. Because it’s the summer and that’s how we roll when it’s warm outside. Plus: new tracks by Crack Cloud, Silverbacks, Metz, Zombi, Bully, Tiña, Asher Gamedze, Ambrose Akinmusire, Yin Yin, Future Islands, Genevieve Artadi, Kacy Hill, Wye Oak, Samantha Crain, Widowspeak, She Keeps Bees, Sylvie Simmons, Mary Lattimore, Cat Clyde, Bill Callahan, Gillian Welch, Buck Meek, Astral Swans, David Ramirez, Dogwood Tales, The Texas Gentlemen, El Michels Affair, and Dojo Cuts.

YĪN YĪN’s debut album is another gem coming from the same vibrant Dutch scene that brought us the great Altin Gün. But instead of looking at Turkish folk and psychedelia for influence, the lads from Maastricht infuse South East Asian textures in their Moroder-inspired disco – with a nod to the Ghanaian institution that is Kiki Gyan’s “24 Hours in a Disco” in their single “Dis kô dis kô”. Plus: new tracks by 10 000 Russos, Heavy Lungs, Ancient Shapes, Battles, PAUS, Maria Reis, Chairlift’s Caroline Polachek, Hop Along’s Frances Quinlan, Sarah Pagé, Destroyer, Mikal Cronin, Why?, Common Holly, Simone White, Andy Shauf, Frazey Ford, Courtney Barnett, Youbet, Lankum, Leonard Cohen, and Justin Peter Kinkel-Schuster.

Hiss Golden Messenger’s eleventh record in eleven years, “Terms of Surrender”, is our album of the week. Another gem, as usual from one of our favourite songwriters of the 2010s. Plus: new tracks by Andrew Combs, Longriver, Vetiver, Wilco, Jonathan Wilson, Kacy & Clayton, Caitlin Jemma, Leonard Cohen, Simon Joyner, Itasca, Brittany Howard, Leslie Stevens, Anna Ash, Soccer Mommy, Karl Blau, Jim Lauderdale, Jason James, Giant Sand, LIFE, Mikal Cronin, The New Pornographers, Nico LaOnda, YĪN YĪN, and Les Big Byrd.
