#194: Jesca Hoop, “STONECHILD”

Last time we checked on Jesca Hoop she was busy touring a collaboration album with Iron & Wine and recording a (mostly acoustic) new album with Blake Mills. In 2019, she’s taking a different approach by teaming up with John Parish and recording what’s probably the most interesting record of her career, his subtle electronic touches complementing her fingerpicked guitar without ever even approaching “folktronica” territory (good to know they both know it’s not 2005 anymore).

This week’s playlist also features new tracks by Belle and Sebastian, Vanishing Twin, Moon Duo, Rayland Baxter, The Raconteurs, Okey Dokey, TFS Band, Titus Andronicus, Necking, Giant Sand, 75 Dollar Bill, Claire Cronin, black midi, Kacy & Clayton, Aviva le Fey, Alasdair Roberts, Erin Durant, Leif Vollebekk, Jonah Tolchin, and RF Shannon.

#4: Natalie Prass, “Natalie Prass”

Natalie Prass

Another week, another Bolachas-curated playlist, with two added Natalie Prass songs – we’re really high on her selftitled debut LP – as well as brand new songs from indie darlings Torres and Courtney Barnett, two more songs from January habitués The Decemberists and Belle & Sebastian, a bunch of both upcoming (Adia Victoria) and established (José González, Jim White) singer-songwriters, refreshing new singles from Mikal Cronin and Lower Dens, a couple of songs from crossing-over R&B musicians D’Angelo and Jazmine Sullivan, as well as a chilly new tune by Chilly Gonzales. Follow this playlist if you want your weekly fix delivered every Monday.

An introduction to Bolachas Now Playing

It’s time to change. Again. The always shapeshifting entity known as Bolachas – this sort of webzine (whatever that word really means) that was once also a download blog, a mp3 blog, a carefully curated platform for unknown artists to promote their music for free, a netlabel, a promoter, some sort of booking agency – turns 9 this year.
