#211: Chico da Tina, “Minho Trapstar”

Hailing from Viana do Castelo, Portugal, Francisco da Concertina – or Chico da Tina – is the only trap star we know that plays concertina, would rather have a 18th century neoclassical painting on his neck instead of golden chains, buys his wares from local markets instead of “flea markets” or vintage shops, and whose notion of a good time is more likely to be a small village romaria instead of a club in the city. You won’t get it if you don’t know the language, but it’s your fault anyway. Plus: new tracks by Destroyer, Girl Ray, Jaakko Eino Kalevi, Lalalar, Health&Beauty, Black Bombaim & João Pais Filipe, Clark, Maria Reis, Josienne Clarke, Basia Bulat, Frances Quinlan, Hoops, Tōth, Califone, SUSS, Twain, Futurebirds, Tuomo & Markus, Drive-By Truckers, Honey Harper, and Leonard Cohen.

Bolachas Now Playing #8

Here we are with yet another playlist, this time with tracks from upcoming albums from Speedy Ortiz, Courtney Barnett, Calexico, Tobias Jesso Jr., Kanye West, Patrick Watson, Matthew E. White, Clark and songs from recent records from Diamond Rugs, William Ryan Fritch (yes, again – what a great record!), Ghostpoet, Samuel Kerridge, Paul Johnson and The Body & Thou. There’s just so much great music coming out these days that we had a shortlist of 20+ tracks for this week only… And that’s without counting songs that aren’t on Spotify yet!

This got somewhat buried under the wall of text that was our last post, so here’s a repost of our first weekly Spotify playlist of the year.

An introduction to Bolachas Now Playing

It’s time to change. Again. The always shapeshifting entity known as Bolachas – this sort of webzine (whatever that word really means) that was once also a download blog, a mp3 blog, a carefully curated platform for unknown artists to promote their music for free, a netlabel, a promoter, some sort of booking agency – turns 9 this year.
