It finds the American composer and saxophonist developing her ethnographic work through spoken word traditionals and blues, punctuated by free jazz bursts that make it an essential listen. This week, on our 15-song playlist, we’ll focus on the new John Grant record, which is probably his best album to date. There are two songs off the new Saintseneca album, a band that is an old favorite of Bolachas. We hope this is their real breakthrough. Ciara, Kelela and Tinashe’s new singles are three brand new pop nuggets we can’t get enough of and, of course, you’ll find them here; look out for new songs by Zombi, Protomartyr, James Vincent McMorrow, Weyes Blood, and Daniel Martin Moore. And although we know it’s Friday and there’s no time for #TBTs or whatever people celebrate on Thursdays in 2015, check out a new version of Minta’s “Future Me” by They’re Heading West featuring Peixe and absolute classic “Such a Night”, which was just reissued along with 61 other Dr. John songs.
