Namedropping is cheating, but the veteran – although not that well-known outside of Scandinavia – Swedish singer-songwriter might be up your alley if you’re into some not so strange mix between Nick Cave and Jason Molina with a post-rocky Americana vibe.

John Darnielle is Getting Into Knives! And it’s probably his best album in almost a decade, when ‘All Eternals Deck’ brought us some of the most memorable the Mountain Goats songs. Closing the album, the title track is the standout here – a repeat affair right after the first listen.

Almost a decade after the last The Black Swans release, frontman Jerry David DeCicca keeps putting out great solo albums. Which are not strictly solo, if you look at the cast of musicians enlisted here, a list that includes the legendary Augie Meyers (of the Texas Tornados and the Sir Douglas Quintet). The result is an instrumentally rich set of Americana songs that are probably your best introduction to DeCicca’s work as a songwriter.

Max Clarke, aka Cut Worms, sounds a bit like if Jim James was sent back to the 60s in a time capsule to perform in folk-rock and Merseybeat outfits. His new double LP “Nobody Lives Here Anymore” has to be our most anticipated release of the year. We tried very hard not to include all of the nine (!) advance songs Jagjaguwar has slowly put out in the past five months. Now that it’s all out, its 77 minutes will take a lot of time to digest – mostly because it’s impossible to not get hooked in one or another of the nuggets hidden inside this record.

The Nude Party are 2020’s kings of cool. Which is kinda unfortunate, since in a normal world they would be everybody’s pick for the next festival season. Feel-good and groovy as it gets, “Midnight Manor” was clearly made for an older world where we’re all out partying. Let’s pretend it never changed.
