The Nude Party are 2020’s kings of cool. Which is kinda unfortunate, since in a normal world they would be everybody’s pick for the next festival season. Feel-good and groovy as it gets, “Midnight Manor” was clearly made for an older world where we’re all out partying. Let’s pretend it never changed.

The upside of not having concerts to go to is the fact that we have even more time to listen to new music than before. There are 32 songs in our playlist this week, but that’s only because we try to keep it below two hours. And on the spotlight this time around is My Morning Jacket’s surprise release of The Waterfall II, the second set of songs coming from the same session that gave us one of the best rock albums of the past decade. This would be the time for me to beg Jim James and the guys to come over to Europe, but it looks that won’t happen any time soon.

Is there anything more typical of music publications in the 21st century than waiting for an indie rock band to fail miserably with the release their second record? Don’t let them tell you “Sideways to New Italy” is lacking something important. The new Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever album has all the melodies and hooks you need to survive this festival-less summer so you can pretend everything’s fine. We’re adding a fourth sentence to this paragraph because it seems like it’s mandatory to reference the Go-Betweens and/or the Feelies every single time we talk about this band.
